When Sophie stumbled upon a social media post from World Animal Friends about a gorgeous ginger and white cat named Izzy, she immediately felt a deep connection with the feline. Izzy had lost her sight after getting hit by a car while living on the streets of Bosnia. The cat’s picture online stirred up emotions of vulnerability and helplessness within Sophie.
Introducing Izzy, a young feline who has faced some challenging situations. At a tender age of one year, she was carrying a litter of kittens when she was struck by a vehicle, leading to the loss of her right eye and partial blindness in her left due to a detached retina. Tragically, all of her unborn kittens were lost as well. In addition to these critical injuries, Izzy had to endure a broken jaw and tail. During her surgery, she even experienced respiratory arrest, making her survival more miraculous and remarkable despite her youthfulness.
Despite Izzy’s extensive trauma, Sophie was drawn to her and knew that animals with special needs could be incredibly resilient. Having previously adopted a blind, deaf, and old cat named Puzzle, Sophie understood the joys of caring for such animals. Although she was still grieving the loss of Puzzle in 2019, Sophie applied to adopt Izzy and was delighted when her application was approved. However, she had to wait several months before Izzy could travel from Bosnia to her home in Manchester, England. Finally, on December 15, 2019, Izzy arrived after traveling for three days in a van with other cats and dogs who were also being adopted. Upon arrival, Izzy ate three full bowls of food and slept in the same room as Sophie, who woke up to find Izzy nuzzled into her. It was love at first sight!
Meet Izzy, a stunning cat with ginger and white fur. Although she is visually impaired, she can effortlessly move around her permanent residence thanks to her strong connection with Sophie, her owner. Despite her disability, Izzy remains an energetic and self-sufficient cat who enjoys exploring the garden and playing with her feline sibling. Izzy struggles with entropion, a condition that requires frequent injections and daily eye drops. Nevertheless, she leads a relatively normal life that is free from pain. Izzy has been a great source of comfort for her parents, earning the nickname “Therapy Cat” because of her ability to provide support and solace when they need it most.
Sophie had second thoughts on adopting a new feline companion, however, when she met Izzy in 2019, she was hooked. Although Izzy is visually impaired, Sophie is thankful to have her as a member of the family. Puzzle, Sophie’s previous feline buddy with special needs, passed away in 2018. Despite being blind, Izzy proved that with patience and care, visually challenged cats can still live rewarding and happy lives. Her delightful existence serves as proof that blind cats can lead fulfilling lives.
Sophie thinks that blind cats are exceptional creatures in the world of felines and can make wonderful pets. She believes that it’s unfair to assume that they are hard to look after. Sophie cites Izzy, a blind cat that has an Instagram account, as proof of how these cats can live joyful and meaningful lives with proper care and attention.
After spending some time taking care of blind cats, Sophie has discovered that it’s not as challenging as she initially thought. On the contrary, it can be incredibly rewarding. Among the felines that have captured her heart is Izzy, a cat that Sophie came across in a photo. When Sophie first saw her, Izzy was in a bad state after being rescued off the streets of Bosnia by Rusmira. But with the help of World Animal Friends and Izzy’s loving owners, she is now on the road to recovery and doing very well.
Sophie admires Izzy’s optimistic attitude towards life, despite having gone through tough experiences. Sophie also mentions that Izzy has a keen sense of understanding human emotions and this quality has made her endearing to Sophie. In general, Izzy holds a special place in Sophie’s heart.
